New York  Solar Energy Industries Association

NYSEIA

The only statewide non-profit membership and trade association dedicated
solely to advancing solar energy use in New York State.

Goals:

  1. Achieve 2000 MW of PV and increased solar thermal use throughout  New York State during the next 10 years -- through a bold new initiative modeled on the California Solar Initiative ordered by the CA Public Service Commission in 2006 to achieve 3000 MW of PV over the next 11 years.

  1. Expand the manufacturing of solar technologies in New York State --  Building on recent successes in-state with semiconductor and fuel cell manufacturing.  Increased manufacturing of solar technologies could utilize idle or under-utilized manufacturing and fabrication plants and could increase jobs and revenue.

  1. Increase awareness among legislators and other elected officials of the environmental, economic development and energy supply benefits of solar energy use - an emission free, climate neutral energy source!

4.   Participate in policy and regulatory processes-- to ensure the needs of the
solar industry are understood and considered when making key decisions

5.   Help train the future workforce through education, training, and internships..

2008 Initiatives:

1.   Organize and present a Solar Industry Conference and Trade Show.

2.   Organize and host Training Sessions on Solar Energy.

3.   Continue the PV Installer Internship Program.

4.   Encourage constituent meetings on solar energy issues through NYSEIA's Solar
     Action Network.

5.   Participate in legislative discussions on solar energy legislation and educate
      members and the public
on key policy and regulatory issues.

6.   Expand existing Net Metering Legislation by:

      - Increasing the upper limit for solar net metering to 2 MW per customer.

      - Allowing all customers to participate in net metering (not just residences and farms).

      - Expanding net metering so it is available to customers of NYPA and electric
cooperatives (not just customers of investor-owned utilities, as presently allowed.)

      - Removing (or increasing) the existing statewide limit of 1/10th of 1% of peak demand
        for net metering.
