NYSEIA Executive Director Shyam Mehta testified in Manhattan on February 14, 2019 before a joint hearing of the New York Senate Majority and the Environmental Conservation Committee regarding NYSEIA's support for the Climate and Community Protection Act (S7971A). "For solar energy to play any meaningful role towards the achievement of a carbon-free electricity sector and economy, it will not suffice to increase deployments at incremental or even moderate rates. To achieve a contribution of even 10 percent by 2030 will require deploying almost 10 gigawatts of solar in the next decade—more than seven times the amount that has been installed so far, or an order of magnitude more than we have done to date."
