Letter to Legislators Regarding Proposed Amendments to the Climate and Community Protection Act
May 9, 2019
The Climate and Community Protection Act (“CCPA”) is a landmark piece of legislation that would put New York on the path to a more sustainable future by encouraging the construction of a significant number of new renewable energy projects. A coalition of advocacy organizations and trade associations including NYSEIA have proposed several amendments to make the bill more supportive of clean energy industries. Those amendments fall into the following categories: 1. adding aggressive and specific goals and milestones for the electricity sector to drive utility compliance and allow visibility for investment; 2. establishing a threshold for the prevailing wage requirements; 3. not disrupting existing clean energy programs through abrupt funding changes; and 4. using the existing definition of renewable energy.
